CB: EVANS (GBR) - gold in men's BMX

GLASGOW - Comments from gold medallist Kyle EVANS (GBR) after winning the men's BMX final at Glasgow BMX Centre, Knightswood Park on Saturday.

Kyle EVANS (GBR) - gold

On being crowned European champion:

"I don't know what to say, I didn't expect to win. I got in, like I do in every race, making sure I am doing my best performance, giving myself the best chance to win. But trying to do this is a different thing on the day, we've got so many good riders here, the top six in the world are all from Europe, so it's never going to be easy.

"I worked hard at home and it paid off."

On looking confident throughout the finals:

"We had to battle it out with Sylvain (ANDRE), he's the world champ and he's from France. We are all friends off the track, but when we got on the field it's serious racing.

"For me to go in and actually perform like that is huge and I am lost for words."

On seeing team-mate Kye WHITE behind him in second place:

"When I came into the second turn, I messed up the second straight a little bit, and my starts weren't too great today. It took me a while to find my mojo.

"But in the last two races I managed to pull a pretty decent one out and I know what Kye can do on the track so he really is the last person you want behind you.

"The whole time I was just thinking 'keep going, keep smooth, keep driving, speed', because if not he'd come up behind me and snap it off me.

"He's a good talent, he's on the rise, he has a bit more work to do but he's getting there."
