CB: SMULDERS (NED) - gold women's BMX
GLASGOW - Comments from Laura SMULDERS (NED) after winning gold in the women's final at the Glasgow BMX Centre, Knightswood Park on Saturday.
Laura SMULDERS (NED) - gold
On her preparation:
"Today I felt great. I had a little bit of a struggle in practice on Thursday but I got back on the track yesterday and tried to feel confident again. I went home last night with three first places in the heats, so I felt better."
On her race strategy:
"Today I had to step up my game a little bit more to be in front of the other fast girls like Simone (Tetsche CHRISTENSEN, DEN) and the Russian girls. So I had knew what I had to do - a good gate and a smooth lap. That's what I did in the final, I put it all together and I'm very proud."
On racing in the world champion's rainbow jersey:
"I won the European title last year also but now with the rainbow jersey on I definitely felt more pressure. I wanted to win it really bad because as the world champion, you don't want to lose. I felt the pressure and I was a bit nervous today but in the end it didn't put me down. I felt good, confident, and I knew what I had to do."
