CT: ENGLISH (IRL) - 'It comes to the last 10 laps and you're like, holy s***, my legs are dying here'

GLASGOW - Comments from Felix ENGLISH (IRL) after finishing 12th in the omnium men's scratch race in the 2018 European Championships at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena on Saturday.

On leading a one-man breakaway with three laps to go, before being caught in the final straight:

"It was very close. I'm riding it today just to pick up some points. It was nice to give it a go. Normally I'd hope the sprint was going a bit slower so I could get a bigger gap, but it was going quite quickly."

On the difficulties faced within the velodrome:

"Normally it would be full gas, but this has been constantly 80 or 90 per cent. You think you're fine, then it comes to the last 10 laps and you're like, 'Holy s***, my legs are dying here'. You don't think it's as hard as it is, but then you finish and you're gone."

On preparations for the rest of the omnium:

"It's not really the main objective. We need to try to save it for the Madison on Monday. That's our main aim here."

On where his priorities lie in the omnium:

"I wanted to try something in the scratch - that's my main event going through the winter now. Tempo is one of those in which you either come in the top three or you come last, but if your moves work out hopefully you'll get something out of that, too."
