Dutch gymnast withdraws on eve of Glasgow 2018 due to injury

GLASGOW - Dutch gymnast Eythora THORSDOTTIR has withdrawn from the Netherlands team to contest the Glasgow 2018 European Championships after breaking her left hand in training on Saturday (28 July).

THORSDOTTIR, who claimed silver on the balance beam and bronze in the floor exercise at the 2017 European Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, will be replaced by Naomi VISSER.

VISSER, the 2017 Dutch uneven bars champion, will make her senior international debut in Glasgow.

Earlier this month she took the silver medal in the all-around event at a friendly competition between Netherlands, Japan, Great Britain and Belgium in Heerenveen.

Women's team head coach Gerben WIERSMA said: "Our goal is making it to the team final, and our ambition is getting into the top six."

The women's senior qualifying competition starts on 2 August at the SSE Hydro Arena.
