DV: LAUGHER (GBR) - 'There’s still a lot in the tank'
EDINBURGH - Comments from diver Jack LAUGHER (GBR) after finishing first in the preliminaries of the 1m springboard at the Royal Commonwealth Pool on Tuesday.
Jack LAUGHER (GBR)
On his start to competition:
"Nice easy prelim. Nothing went really wrong but there's still a lot in the tank to improve on for the finals, which is always good. Nice performance, always good to show the judges you're looking in shape and everything. It's a great feeling and I'm happy me and James (HEATLY, GBR) made it through."
On his strategy for the preliminaries:
"Just to land on my head, every single time really. Make no mistakes basically, is the best way to go through. The best way to go through prelims is to avoid any disasters so that you don't have to be trying to make up for those disasters on others dives. But today was absolutely perfect, really steady, so I’m very happy."
On his confidence after the strong performance in the preliminaries heading into the final:
"It gives me a bit of confidence but obviously people are just trying to get through to the finals here, they're not giving their 100 per cent, which is always something to consider for the finals.
"I put out a very good list there and I am happy with how it was, considering I’ve still got to step up in the final as well, but I’m feeling confident.
"There are a lot of good divers here in Europe so I’m not going to be complacent, I’m still going to try my best and attack it as much as I can."
