GA: WHITLOCK (GBR) #2 - silver in men’s gymnastics team
GLASGOW - Comments from Max WHITLOCK (GBR) after winning silver in the men’s gymnastics team final at The SSE Hydro on Saturday.
Max WHITLOCK (GBR) - silver
On the team's performance:
"We can be very proud of what we did today. We put on some really good routines, especially in the first half of the competition, which was amazing. It was really good fun. The team got behind every single person. It gave us a big confidence boost."
On the team's specific strengths:
"Because this is a new team, I don’t see that we are particularly strong in one area. It is quite evenly spread across the different apparatus. This gives us a lot of confidence as we look to future championships. However, there’s still room for improvement in everything we did."
On the atmosphere performing to a home crowd:
"It was brilliant and we thrived off it. Even if there were mistakes, they got behind us every time. The crowd just kept getting louder and louder. Glasgow has proven to be one of the best cities to do gymnastics and hopefully they can keep it that way."
On his own performance:
"I was happy with my routines. Score wise, on the floor, I was really pleased as that was a new routine. I put in an enquiry in for the pommel horse as they didn’t count one of my skills, which is a bit of a shame. I need learn from that."
On how he focused with the individual apparatus finals still to take place tomorrow:
"I had the mindset to really go for it. The team was the priority. It has given me a lot of confidence going into tomorrow.I try not to change mindset but I learn from every competition."
