GO: FERNANDEZ, JIMENEZ (SPN) - 'It was so close it licked the hole'
GLASGOW - Comments from Scott FERNANDEZ (ESP) and Noemi JIMENEZ (ESP) on their fourth-place finish after losing a play off in the mixed team event at the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles on Saturday.
Scott FERNANDEZ (SP)
On how he reacted to the dramatic finish to the play-off for the bronze medal:
"Noemi's short game today was amazing. I was looking at her and I thought if this goes in, it will be the best chip I've seen in a long time. It was so close it licked the hole and it would have changed the whole thing, the match and the play off."
On how they played the whole match:
"We had a little bit of information going around, with someone holding our scores up and the couple ahead was able to see our scores and give us a bit of positive feedback like 'they’re going well, so let's keep pushing'.
"We knew we needed to do two birdies coming in to have a chance for a medal and we did it. It didn't go our way but we felt we played great today."
Noemi JIMENEZ (SP)
On finishing fourth:
"We had a lot of birdies and one eagle and we knew the play off could go either way. I knew I had to hole it from there and I did the best I could."
