GO: ORIOL, FERNANDEZ (ESP) - gold in men's team event
GLASGOW - Comments from gold medallists Pedro ORIOL (ESP), Scott FERNANDEZ (ESP) after the men's team event at the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles on Sunday.
Scott FERNANDEZ (ESP) – gold
On the winning hole:
"It's a sloppy green. Anything just a couple of yards left of where Pedro [ORIOL] hit it and I would have had a 30-yard chip rather than a putt to win."
On winning gold at Gleneagles:
"It's the first time I've played on this course. I remember on (hole) 15, seeing Jamie DONALDSON (GBR) winning the Ryder Cup there, and I can’t believe how difficult that green is. To win on this course for the Spanish team today is great."
Pedro ORIOL (ESP) – gold
On the weather conditions:
"Well it is a typical Scottish day. Raining, chilly. It wasn’t raining that hard so it really was OK, but 36 holes in these conditions is always hard."
On recovering from Saturday's disappointment of missing out on a medal in the mixed tournament in a play-off:
"I'm very sad for the girls [Noemi JIMENEZ and Silvia BANON] that they didn't get a medal, but at least today we got the gold."
On winning the gold for Spain:
"Before playing this tournament, Scott [FERNANDEZ] and myself were talking about the gold medal and we did it. It's an honour to play for Spain. It's an honour to win a gold medal for Spain. I’m actually a little choked up."
