LAUGHER (GBR) reaches for triple diving crown in 3m springboard synchronised
EDINBURGH - Jack LAUGHER (GBR) will reach for the triple European crown with partner Christopher MEARS in the 3m springboard synchronised on day five of the diving competition at Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh on Friday.
LAUGHER has already won gold in the 1m springboard and 3m springboard at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
The Rio 2016 Olympic champions are the favourites, but a challenge is likely to come from 2017 world champions Evgenii KUZNETSOV/Ilia ZAKHAROV (RUS). ZAKHAROV took the silver and KUZNETSOV the bronze in the inidividual 3m on Thursday.
Other contenders include Ukraine's Oleksandr GORSHKOVOZOV/Oleg KOLODIY and Andrea CHIARABINI/Giovanni TOCCI of Italy. TOCCI won the silver medal in the 1m springboard on Tuesday, but failed to qualify for the final in the 3m springboard.
Elena BERTOCCHI (ITA) hopes to defend her European title in the women's 1m springboard, but competition will be tough with 2017 world silver medallist Nadezhda BAZHINA (RUS), Maria POLYAKOVA (RUS) and Anna PYSMENSKA (UKR). Tina PUNZEL (GER) is hoping to add another medal to her gold in the 3m mixed synchronised while the new 10m platform champion Celine Maria VAN DUIJN (NED) could be good for another surprise.
