Reynaud LAVILLENIE (FRA) - bronze
On the high level of competition in the men's pole vault:
"Before coming here I said that the competition was going to be an intense battle - and it was. We have to enjoy it. This was one of the most epic competitions ever. I know why I love to be at championships. Today it was like in poker 'all in'.
"It is kind of a risk, but if you do not do it, you can not win. It was an emotional day. I have to be honest, I had a lot of trouble with my knee, it was difficult for me to be without pain. The pole was not moving as I was expecting, so I jumped with a smaller pole. When I cleared 5.85m it was like a liberation, a big relief."
On increasing his impressive medal haul:
"This is extraordinary. Another medal, I guess it is my 18th medal [18 senior medals at Olympic Games, world championships, world indoors, European championships and European indoors since 2009]. I will be back."
