AT: LAVILLENIE (FRA) - 'We are friends. But in competition, everything changes'

BERLIN - Comments from Renaud LAVILLENIE (FRA) after qualifying for the final of the men's pole vault with 5.61m at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on Friday.


On his performance in the qualifying competition:

"I was not happy with my performance. The wind was turning around and it was difficult. Now I can focus on the next stage."

On his fitness to compete in the competition:

"This morning was a kind of test for my knee which had been injured. Luckily it worked pretty well for me. Sunday will be another day. I am feeling good."

On rival Arnaud ART (BEL), who also achieved 5.61m in qualifying:

"I have a special relationship with him. I have know him for many years. We are good friends. But in a competition everything changes."
