GLASGOW - Comments from Axel REYMOND (FRA) after winning the silver medal in the men's 5km open water swimming event at Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park on Wednesday.
Axel REYMOND (FRA) - silver
On winning a medal at such a short distance when he is 25km world champion:
"I have been working on my speed a lot and we are very happy to have two Frenchmen in the top (Logan FONTAINE, bronze).
"I didn't expect this result at all, but at a certain point I had a positive feeling so I accelerated and accelerated. I saw the Hungarian (Kristof RASOVSZKY, gold) passing by and knew it would have been difficult to catch up on him so I tried to hold on to the second place."
On team-mate Marc-Antoine OLIVIER, world 5km champion, who finished seventh:
"It was a bit of a surprise. I don't know what happened."
On junior team-mate FONTAINE:
"He's very good. He had good results in the 5km last year (eighth place) and he is good for the future in France."
On racing with countryman FONTAINE:
"We didn't foresee to be in the lead so soon but we eventually tried to keep that position. I am glad of his result but I didn't want to leave him (FONTAINE) the second place (laughs)."
