GLASGOW - Comments from Max LITCHFIELD (GBR) after taking silver in the men's 400m individual medley at Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Thursday.
Max LITCHFIELD (GBR) - silver
On whether there were times during his injury lay-off when he thought he would not return to the top:
"No. There were times when I thought, wow, this is taking a while and it's going to be something that's not going to get better overnight, and it didn't. Early January we were considering surgery because it just wasn't getting better over the winter. There was never a point where I thought that’s my career over, and people said it might be, but I'm going to push through everything I can and get back to where I want to be."
On why he was so certain he would return:
"Just through my mentality. I am not done in this sport and I've got years to come and no matter what is thrown at me I just want to keep pushing it back and doing everything I can. People telling me I can't do something, I’ll do it."
On David VERRASZTO (HUN) who claimed his third successive title:
"We've been racing for the last three or four years now. I think the first time I beat him was [at the] world short course and since then we have had this rivalry where we've both kind of pushed each other on and he's a great guy and he's won that three times in a row now."
On VERRASZTO'S celebrations where he ran around the pool:
"He’s done amazing things. He has all the right if he wants to celebrate and he's the fastest man in Europe so he has that right."
