TR: ALARZA (ESP) - 'If I am physically well, I can take gold'
GLASGOW - Comments from Fernando ALARZA (ESP) ahead of the triathlon competition, which starts at Strathclyde Country Park on Thursday.
Fernando ALARZA (ESP)
On his goals for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships:
"I fully recovered from my injury at the achilles tendon but I lost two months of training. I have a good season so far and had a good performance in Edmonton [at the World Triathlon Series in July] so if I am physically well and do a good run, I can take gold."
On his strongest opponents:
"Joao SILVA from Portugal is not in his best year but his run is very strong so he can do a good race. If Alistair [BROWNLEE, GBR] is here, he's certainly a favourite but all of us want to win."
On the Spanish triathlon team:
"We are a strong team. In 2017 [at the European championships in Kitzbuhel, Austria] we had three men in the top six."
