TR: LE CORRE (FRA) - gold in men's triathlon
GLASGOW - Comments from Pierre LE CORRE (FRA) after winning gold in the men's triathlon at Strathclyde Country Park on Friday.
Pierre LE CORRE - gold
On the race:
"It was really tough today with [two-time Olympic and three-time European champion] Alistair BROWNLEE (GBR). I was really scared of him because I know he's an opponent who is really hard to beat but today was my day. I'm really happy."
On whether he knew Fernando ALARZA (ESP), who took silver, was chasing him down:
"No I didn't know that - just at the end when I was looking back I saw him and thought, 'Oh, he's coming strong' so I tried to push it a little bit, to keep my gap, and that was fine."
On his fear that an in-form BROWNLEE was back and competitive following a calf injury:
"I was really scared. Alistair is not in his best shape right now, I could see it, but he will be back. (Fortunately) for me, he was not great today."
