Athletics will take place in the German capital’s famous and iconic Olympic stadium and the Berlin 2018 organisers estimate 275,000 tickets will be sold, in addition to the officials, teams, volunteers and media who will also be present across the six days of competition from 7-12 August
The marathons and race walking events will be held on the roads of Berlin and will be free to watch. On the evidence of the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, which were also held in Berlin when the out-of-stadia athletics events were hugely popular with the German public, these figures could be swelled by at least another 100,000.
The European Athletics Championships are expected to be the biggest event in the sport in 2018.
Attendances of around 250,000 are expected at the six sports to be contested at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships – Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon and a new team Golf event.
A number of free events including the Cycling Road European Championships will be part of the Glasgow 2018 sports programme. The Glasgow fans have a proud track record of turning out in large numbers for cycling events in the city with around 85,000 lining the streets for the Road Races during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The Glasgow 2018 European Championships will be staged from 2-12 August in Glasgow with everyday promising top-quality world-class competition.
The European Championships is a major new multi-sport event taking place every four years fully supported by Europe’s free-to-air broadcasters, which aggregates the existing senior continental championships of Athletics (European Athletics), Aquatics (LEN), Cycling (UEC), Gymnastics (UEG), Rowing (FISA), Triathlon (ETU), with a new Golf Team Championships (ET & LET) – all unified under a common brand.
