Championships organisers secure Middle East and North Africa region broadcast deal

European Championships Management (ECM) are pleased to announce a media rights agreement with Dubai Media Incorporated for the ongoing broadcasting of the nine sports of the multi-sport European Championships Munich 2022 across the MENA region.

The deal includes non-exclusive live coverage of the European Athletics Championships together with non-exclusive highlights packages for each of the nine individual sports.

Broadcasting is being delivered across ARABSAT, with an audience reach of more than 170 million viewers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and NILESAT comprising 43 million households delivering 95 per cent reach in the MENA region.

The signals are being delivered to viewers using the IP technology being pioneered by ECM at the multi-sport Championships, also using the technology to reach users via YouTube, DailyMotion and Facebook outside of Europe.

Cloud technology has opened up the possibility of fast, efficient distribution of the broadcast signals in 1080P HD quality, giving ECM the ability to manage access in real-time, while also being cost-effective and reliable.

ECM communications director James Mulligan said: “We are very pleased to be able to deliver live coverage to the European Athletics Championships and highlights of all nine sports for our new broadcast partners in MENA.

“Our goal is to bring the very best of the action from Munich to audiences globally to fulfil our mission to elevate the Champions of Europe. Being able to reach sports viewers in the MENA region is a very important step in ensuring the Championships vision becomes reality.”
